When I first delved into the world of Agetech, it didn’t take me long to find Keren Etkin, TheGerontechnologist. She is one of those extraordinary individuals who generously shares her profound knowledge and insightful perspectives with the world. For those intrigued by Agetech, I highly recommend exploring her collection of articles, blogs, podcasts, speeches, and her enlightening book.

I’m delighted to share that Keren Etkin will host a ‘State of AgeTech 2024’ webinar, specifically tailored to our antipodean timezone, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 5 p.m. AEST. This is a unique opportunity to gain rare insights into the global market and glimpse the future. The webinar is free, and I encourage you to register here to secure your spot.

Why should we tap into the global Agetech community? We can better tackle systemic issues that transcend borders through collaboration, aligning with global agendas such as the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and Decade for Healthy Ageing. This alignment fosters inclusive Agetech solutions, empowering communities to address disparities in health, economic opportunity, and technology access.

Considering the far-reaching implications of climate change, which disproportionately impact the most vulnerable, harnessing Agetech’s potential to meet the needs of older individuals also enables us to contribute to sustainable development and environmental resilience.

A global perspective also allows us to glean valuable insights from countries ageing before our own. For example, based on World Bank data, approximately 30% of Japan’s population is 65 years or older, while in Italy, this figure stands at around 24%. Projections from the World Health Organization suggest that the global population aged 60 and above will nearly double from 2015 to 2050. Keren’s website offers deep dives into regions, such as Japan, Europe and Canada, providing valuable insights into how ecosystems can develop technology to assist in care and connectivity as we age.

Keren maps the Agetech companies worldwide, a resource she updates annually. Some fortunate Australian Agetech companies feature on her global 2023 Agetech Market Map and, of course, are also included on the Silver Futures Australian Agetech Map. Her map reflects the diverse needs of ageing populations, from medication management, fitness and fall prevention to cognitive training and companion robots.

Agetech is skyrocketing worldwide as entrepreneurs seize the opportunities of demographic shifts, medical advances, changing family structures, and our desire to age in place. Understanding market trends and projections can better inform strategic decision-making and investment priorities for individual Agetech companies.

Keren Etkin provides a vital global perspective on Agetech – I do hope to catch you at the State of AgeTech 2024 webinar to hear from Keren on the trends, challenges, and opportunities that are shaping our Silver Futures.
